Training film for healthcare staff

A working group in Region Östergötland is developing a training film for healthcare staff to help rapidly scale up capacity in response to major incidents. In June, filming took place at the hospital in Motala, starting in the Emergency Department and continuing on to a medical ward.

To illustrate what it means to increase capacity in concrete terms, the concept of surge capacity is used: “The ability to manage sudden or prolonged increases in overall healthcare demand.” The key components are known as the 4 S’s — staff, stuff, structure, and systems — essential for both hospital and community preparedness. To visualize this, the Emergo Train System simulation tool is used, and several instructors were trained in using it this spring at the Motala hospital.
