3‑Day Workshop on Hospital CBRN Resilience

On March 24-26, the World Health Organization (WHO) hosted a three-day workshop in the Czech Republic focused on preparedness for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents. ☢️

Organized in collaboration with the Czech Ministry of Health, the State Office for Nuclear Safety, and the National Radiation Protection Institute, the workshop aimed to strengthen hospital preparedness for complex emergencies. Key objectives included improving coordination and decision-making, enhancing operational readiness for high‑risk scenarios, and aligning hospital procedures with national preparedness frameworks.

A total of 56 participants—including clinicians, emergency managers, nurses, and hospital leaders from hospitals across the country—took part in the workshop.

On the final day, ETS Senior Instructor Vitalii Stetsyk from the WHO Regional Office for Europe facilitated a simulation exercise testing triage, zoning, patient pathways, treatment, coordination, and communication during a major crisis. During the exercise, newly developed Emergo Train System (ETS) radiological and nuclear (RN) patients—created by the ETS Competence Center in collaboration with radiation physicists at Linköping University Hospital, Sweden—were tested and evaluated.

The ETS Competence Center is pleased to have been part of this important collaboration with WHO and will continue developing the RN victim bank for future use by ETS instructors and organizations worldwide.
